3 tips to taking the best photos for your website
The number one thing I tell all of my website clients is this- your photos will make or break your website. You can have the most beautiful logo, colors, theme, fonts, branding etc.. but if you don’t have high quality, aesthetically pleasing photos, your website will fall short compared to the competition. With that being said, here are three tips to help you capture the best website photos.
#1) Use proper lighting:
Lighting plays a vital role in photography, and it can make a significant difference in the quality of your website photos. Natural light is generally the best option for capturing well-lit and vibrant images. Whenever possible, try to shoot your photos outdoors or near windows to make the most of natural light. If shooting indoors, use soft, diffused lighting sources or consider investing in artificial lighting equipment (like a ring light). Avoid harsh shadows and overexposure by positioning your subject and adjusting your camera settings accordingly.
#2) Compose with purpose:
Composition is the arrangement of elements within the frame of your photo. Pay attention to the placement of your subject, background, and other elements to create visually pleasing and balanced compositions. Additionally, consider the background and ensure it complements or enhances your subject, without distracting from it. Experiment with different angles and perspectives to add depth and visual interest to your photos.
#3) Pay attention to details and focus:
Details matter when it comes to website photos. Ensure your subject is sharp and in focus, particularly if you're capturing product images or close-ups. Take advantage of your camera's focusing capabilities and use manual focus if necessary. Pay attention to small elements, such as dust or smudges, that can be distracting in your photos. Clean your camera lens regularly and inspect your images before finalizing them. If you're photographing products, highlight their unique features or textures to make them more appealing to viewers.
Remember to keep your photos bright, symmetrical, and on brand. You can easily take your website to the next level just by capturing the best photos you possibly can. Use tools like Canva, Photoshop, or even your iPhone to remove backgrounds, brighten images, crop images, etc. Taking the time to ensure that your website photos are the best they can possibly be is worth it.
